Universities prove rich resource as software firm expands

Edge Testing

Birmingham-based software testing company Edge Testing Solutions has undergone expansion with the recruitment of 10 new members of staff.

Included in that is the recruitment of nine trainee test analysts, all appointed to support its recently launched, second UK Digital Test Hub in Birmingham.

The new trainees come from a variety of IT backgrounds, with some already having undertaken their ISTQB foundation course, the industry’s leading testing qualification.

Many of the new recruits are graduates from universities in the Midlands.

Trainee test analyst Abdoulhamid Tastinesaib, who holds a BSc in Computing from the University of Wolverhampton, is now part of a team providing testing services for a leading retailer. While computer games degree graduates from Staffordshire University and Birmingham City University, Christopher Lee and Arvin Parrenas are putting their analytics skills to the test in new roles for an online letting agency and contract caterers.

Jamie Hoey joined Edge having gained previous testing experience within the banking industry and was looking to further develop his knowledge of testing after some time spent travelling and working as a Financial Analyst.

He said: “Edge provides the perfect environment for me to fulfil my ambitions of developing my expertise and furthering my career. The array of experienced colleagues from different testing specialities, the impressive range of clientele accompanied with the thorough training we receive make Edge the perfect company to work for.”

Fellow recruit, Rohini Bhat added: “I am surrounded by people from a range of IT disciplines, and this together with the comprehensive training, flexibility and trust, makes the company stand out for me. We are encouraged to interact with clients, and this gives us an opportunity to really understand the projects we are working on.”

Rikki Miles, who previously worked for a logistics company, will be heading to Brazil next month to work on a project for a global firm using Edge’s testing services.

Nadia McKay, Testing Services Director at Edge Testing, said: “We have found a wealth of talent in the Midlands region, and our growing Birmingham team provides a pool of testers to work on clients locally.

“The first 10 recruits at the Birmingham DTH are part of our growth strategy, which will see us exceed 250 employees by the end of this year.

“Testing is a dynamic and challenging career for anyone interested in IT, and we encourage candidates with a positive attitude to learning new skills and a desire to improve software quality to approach us. With a number of companies looking for testing services, we are just beginning our quest to spearhead the growth of testing expertise in the Midlands region.”
