Worcestershire County Council appoints chief executive

Derby City Council’s chief executive, Paul Robinson, is stepping down from April 2018, to join Worcestershire County Council.

Robinson joined Derby City Council in 2008 as a strategic director with responsibility for neighbourhood and community services before successfully being appointed chief executive in 2015.

Robinson said: “My reason for leaving is simply that I have been offered the position of chief executive of Worcestershire County Council and I believe it’s the right time for a new challenge. I came to Derby in 2008 – just under a decade ago. Throughout my time at the authority I’ve worked with dedicated and hardworking staff. I’m proud to have guided the authority through a difficult and challenging time for local government and am confident that the Council is now in a much stronger position to face the years ahead.

“There is probably never an ideal time for such decisions, but I hope that announcing this early will give everyone time to prepare. It should give members time to appoint my replacement while I’m still here and I will, of course, work with members and officers to ensure a smooth transition.”

Robinson’s career spans 30 years in Local Government working in Bradford, York, Newark and Sherwood, East Lindsey and Derby. In that time he has managed large operational services and delivered multi million pound regeneration programmes along with major infrastructure projects including the iconic Derby Arena and the design and approval of the new 50m swimming pool complex at Moorways.

Derby City Council Leader, Councillor Ranjit Banwait, said: “Paul has worked hard for 10 years for Derby City Council and we thank him for the significant contribution he has made to the authority and the commitment he has given. This move represents a new opportunity for Paul at a larger authority and I wish him all the best in the future.”
