Property professionals lend support for disadvantaged children

Snowball event for Property for Kids

Property professionals from across the West Midlands have donated more than 600 Christmas presents for disadvantaged children in Birmingham as part of its biggest festive fundraiser yet.

The Property for Kids charity event at The Jam House saw 560 people from the property sector gather for the annual Snowball event, which was sponsored by Overbury, ESC Consulting, Speller Metcalfe and Wilmott Dixon, and featured live music from commercial property-based bands Under Construction and Hot Property.

All the gift-wrapped presents have been collected by Birmingham and Solihull Women’s Aid, which provides high quality support to women and children affected by domestic violence, who will distribute them to youngsters.

A total of £5,290 was also raised on the evening through ticket sales and donations, while £850 was raised when a pair of tickets for the Six Nations’ England v Wales game, donated by commercial property and investment group LCP, was auctioned.

Jilly Cosgrove, managing director of Barques Design and a Property for Kids chairman, said: “We’ve been astounded by the incredible generosity of the property community once again. The Snowball was the biggest we have ever organised, with 560 tickets sold. The event has always been well supported because it’s not just a fun night out, it’s also an opportunity to meet up with colleagues in the industry and it supports an excellent cause.”

Maureen Connolly, chief executive of Birmingham and Solihull Women’s Aid, said: “We cannot thank Property for Kids enough for its continued support – we’re overwhelmed by this incredible group of generous people and the amount of presents that have been collected. It will make such a difference to the women and children who will find themselves living in a refuge this Christmas.”

The Snowball event also enabled the charity to donate money to the Ladywood Community Project and to Chilwell Croft Academy, Newtown, to pay for Christmas presents for deprived youngsters.
