Birmingham jeweller expands with move to London

A 230-year-old family jeweller from Birmingham has expanded with the opening of a new flagship store in London.

The move by Deakin & Francis following a new funding deal.

Deakin & Francis, established in 1786 and based at Regent Place in Birmingham, designs and manufactures high quality cufflinks, jewellery and luxury accessories. The business is currently managed by brothers Henry and James Deakin, the seventh generation of the family.

The company was invited to open a shop inside London’s prestigious Piccadilly Arcade. To support the business, the brothers turned to Lloyds Bank – the business’ banking partner for more than 200 years – to secure a six-figure working capital facility.

The funding enabled the business to set up and renovate the London site, which reflects the company’s heritage in its interior and also has a Chase Gin bar upstairs for customers.

A new sales team has been hired to manage the store and the business also plans to employ a new craftsman to meet growing demand for products.

Henry Deakin, managing director at Deakin & Francis, said: “The opening of our London store is a fantastic milestone for the business, and we’re very proud to have been invited to set up in such a prestigious area.”

Phil Larner, relationship manager for West Midlands SME manufacturing at Lloyds Bank Commercial Banking, said: “Deakin & Francis is one of our oldest customers and it’s great to be supporting the team again in the next chapter for the business.”
