£10m hotel set to enhance facilities at polo club

A £10m hotel is set to open at a Warwickshire polo venue later this year.

The boutique-style hotel is being developed as part of the £122m expansion of the Dallas Burston Polo Club in Southam.

The 130-bedroom facility, which is set to open in the summer, will feature 50 guest bedrooms, together with 80 self-catering bedrooms complete with kitchen facilities. There will also be a themed bar and reception area.

The hotel will be managed by IXL Events, which also manages the polo club itself.

The £122m investment is being overseen by former GP and pharmaceutical entrepreneur, Dr Dallas Burston. The money forms part of a 12-year plan to grow the 600-acre estate into a prime visitor attraction and one of the largest employers in the area.

The estate features six polo grounds, an events centre, all-weather arena and clubhouse.

Last year saw the opening at the venue of the £1.5m Millstone Hare pub. The pub features a dining and private function area with seating for 110 guests and spectacular views across the polo grounds.

The venue also features some unusual artefacts – not least a selection of French artwork and 10 pews from the Church of St Andrew’s in Upper Harlestone, which has enjoyed a long association with the family of Princess Diana – the Spencers of the nearby Althorp Estate.
