Technology firm set to share in £6.6m investment from VC specialist

A Worcestershire computing business has secured fresh investment as part of a £6.6m funding round from a venture capital firm.

Droplet Computing, based in Kidderminster, is one of three businesses to share in the funding from Draper Esprit.

Founded in 2014, Droplet is working to redefine application delivery through its patent-pending application container technology, which enables applications to be delivered on any device.

The firm said modern businesses were under increasing pressure to transform and update operations but were frequently held back by applications – from legacy up to current versions.

Droplet decouples applications from the operating system (OS) for online and offline use and looks to deliver significant business value by providing costs savings and to user productivity.

AIM-listed Draper Esprit is a venture capital firm specialising in investing in and developing high growth digital technology businesses.

Simon Cook, CEO at Draper Esprit, said: “Draper Esprit continues to lead the way in UK and European tech funding. From synthetic biology, to productivity in the office and the educational environment, these three recent investments are great examples of emerging businesses that utilise their technology to transform the markets in which they operate.

“All have the potential to become global leaders and we look forward to providing further expertise and capital support to enable them to scale quickly.”

Sharing in the funding with Droplet are Cambridge-based Evonetix and Kaptivo.

Biotech Evonetix was founded in 2016 to develop technology that enables the parallel synthesis of DNA on silicon arrays, to facilitate the fast-emerging field of synthetic biology, where there is increasing demand for high throughput and highly accurate DNA synthesis.

Kaptivo is bringing analogue whiteboards into the digital sector by bridging the physical and digital worlds. Its products provide whiteboard live streaming and image capture for the enterprise and education markets.

The firm develops and applies leading-edge optical technology, image processing, and embedded computer vision software. It also has offices in Silicon Valley, California.
