Weekender: New technology serves up the best of Birmingham’s food offering

Marketeers have turned to the latest mobile technology to promote Birmingham’s diverse food and drink sector.

DineHub has utilised a new app to help foodies discover the best food and drink in the area.

Users can search a list of 250 recommended restaurants, bars and cafes for free, while a paid-for membership scheme features exclusive offers from the venues concerned.

Every restaurant visit earns users points, which they can spend on tickets to events including Birmingham Wine Weekend and Birmingham Rum Festival.

In addition, an in-app video channel offers behind-the-scenes access to Birmingham’s top chefs and their kitchens.

Venues signed up to the new scheme include Hotel du Vin, restaurants Lasan, Purnell’s Bistro and Tom’s Kitchen, as well as casual dining spots like The Indian Brewery, Damascena, Amantia and Zindiya.

Venues outside the city centre also feature, with popular pubs like The Plough in Harborne, Kings Heath’s Byzantium and Edgbaston’s El Borracho de Oro all on-board.

The list also features newcomers like plant-based fast food outlet Fressh and Moseley’s upmarket Dessert Lab.

Bars featured include boutique gin bar 40 St Paul’s, while The Birmingham Whisky Club has also signed up.

Specialist artisan shops and delis include All Greek Deli, Italian delicatessen Sapori di Sole and 1683 Chocolate Place in Knowle.

Ahmed Ahmed, founder of DineHub, said: “We are so excited to bring this to the table, after many months of planning and preparation. DineHub is something new – a digital club for real foodies with a passion for eating out, exploring events and discovering local food stories.

“Best of all, we’re working with some of the city’s most iconic venues, as well as many hidden independent gems who deserve to be shouted about. Our aim is to highlight the great work they’re doing and support them.”

The launch follows the growth of the DineHub team in 2017, which saw the arrival of a new Technical Director, Daniel Simm, and Content and Social Media editor Niamh Carpenter.

Formerly known as Dine Birmingham, the company was established in Moseley and is now based at Innovation Birmingham.
