Motorists using the M6 Toll have been advised that the motorway is likely to be closed for much of this afternoon following the death of a pedestrian.

The man was struck by a lorry earlier today and police have confirmed the fatality. The man has not been identified.

Traffic was halted at the main toll station in Great Wyrley, preventing traffic from connecting with the main M6 at Junction 11a.

Police had to escort vehicles off the motorway at the T7 junction, with traffic diverted via the A460 to the M6 at Junction 11 (Cannock).

Police had to appeal to drivers to remain patient, saying they had 10 lanes of traffic filtering down into one lane and clearing the backlog would take some time.

Latest estimates from Highways England is the scene will not be clear until at least 4pm.
