Redundancies made weeks after administrators appointed at forensic firm

Administrators have been forced to begin making redundancies at Key Forensic Services, where 260 people work.

17 people have been made redundant – six at its Coventry head office and 11 in Warrington – while administrators continue to trade the business, which is the largest independent supplier of forensic services in the UK.

Administrators Simon Chandler and Scott Bevan of Mazars have previously said the company “had an underlying profitable business but suffered extreme pressure on its working capital whilst developing new markets and opportunities”.

Key Forensic Services, which was launched at the University of Warwick Science Park in 2005, also has a third base in Norwich.

The £15m-turnover business moved into new headquarters at the Vanguard Centre at the science park in 2013 but ran into financial trouble when it sought to expand.

Key stakeholders reached an agreement with the administrators when they were appointed in late January to ensure a period of stability and minimise the impact on the criminal justice system and ongoing cases, and help to protect evidence in live criminal cases.
