Carillion makes more redundancies

There have been 78 redundancies at Carillion, it has been announced, with the employees leaving the business this week.

There is job certainty, however, for a further 305 employees, who work on facilities management, defense and construction contracts, the Official Receiver has said.

There have been 1,536 redundancies to date from Carillion’s 19,500-strong UK workforce as a result of the liquidation so far, including 87 redundancies made earlier this month.

The consequences of one of the biggest corporate insolvencies in recent time are still ongoing. Around 7,300 employees are retained temporarily to continue Carillion’s work for remaining services as they await decisions on the fate of the contracts.

Last week global real estate and facility management services provider BGIS pulled out of a deal to buy a number of Carillion’s public sector contracts to provide services to hospitals, the education sector, justice, transport and emergency services. This put 2,500 jobs back at risk.
