Dana is to invest £21m in its Birmingham site after winning contracts to supply axles to the next generation of Jaguar and Land Rover luxury vehicles.

It expects the value of the programs for front and rear axles to total more than £300m.

The manufacturer is part of Dana International which is seeking to merge with GKN’s Driveline business, if Melrose’s hostile takeover doesn’t succeed.

Dana, which employs more than 300 people at its Witton factory, is a long-standing supplier to Jaguar Land Rover.

James Kamsickas, Dana president and chief executive, said: “Throughout our 70-year relationship, we have demonstrated a commitment to understanding their unique requirements, allowing us to deliver superior performance for the luxury-vehicle segment.

“These new contracts with Jaguar Land Rover are a testament to Dana’s commitment to engineering and our ability to meet the demands of the market.”

Dana will be supplying its latest Spicer AdvanTEK axles that are designed to deliver greater power density and improved fuel efficiency.

The group is listed on the New York Stock Exchange and is valued at nearly £3bn.
