Senior business figure becomes High Sheriff

Chris Loughran has become the High Sheriff of the West Midlands

A former practice senior partner at Deloitte in the Midlands has been declared as the new High Sheriff for the West Midlands.

Chris Loughran, who is currently deputy chairperson for Greater Birmingham & Solihull Local Enterprise Partnership, has taken up the one-year role following an official ceremony at the Queen Elizabeth Law Courts.

Loughran succeeds the incumbent High Sheriff, John Hudson OBE DL, as the sovereign’s judicial representative.

As High Sheriff, Loughran will be supported by Under Sheriff Greg Lowson, who is head of office at Pinsent Masons, and chaplain The Rt Revd Mgr Canon Daniel McHugh.

Loughran, who was Deloitte’s practice senior partner between 2010 and 2015, said: “It is both an honour and a privilege to be declared High Sheriff. The West Midlands is a relatively new county, founded in 1974, but it has a rich heritage with its towns and cities steeped in tradition with distinct identities.

“I feel strongly that there is strength in our diversity when it is used in a collective, inclusive way. The announcement of the 2022 Commonwealth Games and the 2021 City of Culture have energised the region and have been achieved through communities across the county working together.

“I’m keen that we build on this unity and throughout the next 12 months I will be showcasing exactly why the West Midlands is a great place to live and work.”
