Leamington Spa businesses vote to continue the BID

Leamington Spa’s Business Improvement District (BID) has been approved for a third term by businesses in the area.

The vote by BID Leamington’ businesses, who are set to benefit from more than £1.9m of investment over the next five years, comes after month-long postal ballot of businesses eligible to vote. A total of 79% of the vote share was in favour of the BID continuing.

The BID was established in 2008, and receives an annual levy from all retail and leisure businesses within a set boundary with a a rateable value of more than £15,000.

BID Leamington’s five-year strategy focuses on attracting footfall, car parking, out-of- town and online competition, ensuring a strong retail economy and balancing a mix of outlets. It will also focus on building the BID’s online presence through the Royal Leamington Spa and Taste Leamington websites and social media platforms.

Stephanie Kerr, executive director of BID Leamington, said she sees the win as a clear endorsement for the five-year plan.

“We very much appreciate the trust placed in us by those who have voted and are pleased that BID Leamington has been given the backing of the businesses to build on our achievements over the last five years,” she said.

“The result provides a strong mandate, and holds itself in high accord across the industry as well. Faced with challenges greater than ever before, the business community has recognised the value of retaining the BID as their collective voice on important issues such as development and parking, and in helping to secure a vibrant and successful town centre.
