The M6 is expected to be closed throughout rush hour this morning as police deal with a crash on the southbound carriageway just after Spaghetti junction.

The southbound section between junctions 6 and 5 is closed and is already causing heavy congestions back past junction 9.

The incident was first reported at 2.10am but the latest update from Highways England is that it will be around 11am before the road is fully cleared, although the motorway will be reopened earlier.

Traffic is diverted to follow the hollow triangle symbol, via the A38 towards Birmingham Centre, the A5127, B4137, A47 and A452, to rejoin at J5.
