Brewery cheered by retailer listing

Craft brewer Birmingham Brewing Company had plenty to celebrate as it marks the first birthday of their onsite Tap Room after a major retailer agreed to stock its beers.

The brewery opened its Brewery Tap Room on Strichley Trading Estate in May last year while its beers have become more recognisable thanks to being on the shelves of Harvey Nichols and Selfridges and behind the bars of Birmingham venues.

Birmingham Brewery Company, along with Coventry-based Dhillon’s Brewery, has now been selected by Central England Co-op and its beers will be sold in 26 stores across the West Midlands.

Stirchley food store manager Jim Cunningham said: “We are really proud at Central England Co-op of continuing our long tradition of working with local suppliers by joining forces with two great West Midlands breweries to showcase some great beers and ales.”

Paul Harwood, owner of Birmingham Brewery Company, said goodbye to a career in banking to join Birmingham’s growing real ale and craft beer scene.

He said: “The day of our first tap room it was pouring down the rain, yet I was thrilled that so many people crammed into the unit to try our beer for the first time. I love the community feel in Stirchley, I wasn’t expecting so many families – some days we even have a ‘pushchair park’ in the corner.”

This weekend the brewery will be welcoming customers to bring donations for B30 Food Bank and will be giving away a free third of their award-winning beers, Gold Brummie or Stout Brummie in return for donations of long-life products for B30 Foodbank.
