People: Partner hire for law firm; Senior appointment for building society; and more

Law firm Bevan Brittan has hired a new partner who will be based at its offices at Edmund Street in Birmingham.

Monica Macheng was previously a partner at the law firm Wright Hassall in the Midlands. She qualified at Nottingham Trent Law School and the University of Plymouth.

She joins Bevan Brittan as a corporate partner and will focus mostly on clients in the private sector, especially within manufacturing and healthcare markets. She has wide experience in mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, disposals, transactions, commercial contracts, financing and raising loan capital.

She said: “I am naturally delighted to be joining Bevan Brittan, which has a growing and strong reputation within the legal marketplace. The Midlands is a vibrant business market, with high levels of investment across a range of sectors and increasing interaction between the public and private sectors. International intellectual property service provider Marks & Clerk has boosted its Birmingham team with the appointment of a new partner Philip Cupitt.

Cupitt joins Marks & Clerk from the London office of U.S. law firm Finnegan, and brings more than 15 years’ intellectual property experience to the Birmingham team.

He is a UK and European patent attorney and patent attorney litigator with expertise in the telecommunications, medical device and software sectors.

Tipton and Coseley Building Society has appointed Cammy Amaira as its new director of sales and marketing.

He joins from Family Building Society where he was head of intermediary sales, a post he held for more than three years.

At the Tipton he will be responsible for sales, marketing, product development and retention and will report to the Society’s chief executive, Richard Newton.

Amaira said: “It’s my aim to get the Tipton name better known in the intermediary market. I’m looking forward to using my experience to bring new ideas to the table for the Society to consider, particularly in relation to products and criteria and growing the Tipton’s mortgage book in what’s an increasingly competitive mortgage market.”
