HS2 to reveal station plans at June public meetings

HS2 Ltd is hosting open meetings in June for Solihull residents and others to hear about their plans for the new Interchange Station.

Interchange Station will be located opposite the M42, near Birmingham Airport and the NEC.

It will also be connected to Birmingham International Station by an automated ‘people mover’.

Andy Duggins, the HS2 project director for west midland stations said: ” Interchange station will be a major transport hub for the West Midlands, eventually hosting 10 high speed trains an hour. Not only will it provide great transport connections, it will help to attract new jobs and investment to the area.”

The Interchange station is planned to be open by 2026, and will be a key part of Phase One of the new high speed line from London to Birmingham.

Significant engineering work will be required for this project including major road works and the diversion of overhead power lines and underground utilities.

The public meetings will be held on Monday 18 June at the Crowne Plaza in Marston Green and on Sunday 23rd June at Touchwood.

HS2 are keen that local people can learn more and will be able to speak directly to their representatives.

Duggins added: ” We’re really keen to talk to local people about about the station plans, as we work towards submitting a planning application in 2019. these events are at an important early stage so we will be sharing our overall approach to developing the stations rather than specific, detailed designs. Crucially we will be what work people can expect to see in the near future.”
