New models improve Jaguar Land Rover sales

The introduction of new models helped Jaguar Land Rover improve sales last month, with the UK market in particular performing much more strongly than it had been.

Sales were up 20.9% in the UK, while globally Jaguar Land Rover enjoyed a 6.1% increase in the number of vehicles sold, up to 48,281.

Its new models include the Range Rover Velar, the Jaguar E-PACE and the new Land Rover Discovery.

Felix Brautigam, Jaguar Land Rover’s chief commercial officer, said: “Strong demand for Land Rover vehicles drove our performance in May particularly in the US and UK. The new, award winning Range Rover Velar was an important contributor.

“For Jaguar we’ve had very positive customer response and industry reviews about the innovative Jaguar I-PACE, our first battery electric vehicle. With deliveries starting this summer we expect demand to be strong.”

However lower sales of more established models means its total sales for the five months of 2018 have increased by less than 1,00 vehicles, to 266,170 vehicles.

Sales were down 8.7% in Europe and 8.1% in China, which was affected by import duty reduction resulting in deferred purchases in advance of the July 1 effective date.
