Another 200 Carillion staff transferred to new employers

Nearly 12,000 former Carillion workers are now with new employers after the Official Receiver secured the transfer of another 215 jobs to new suppliers.

Discussions are continuing with potential purchasers for Carillion’s remaining contracts with staff, elected employee representatives and unions, in the light of the news that 66% of the pre-liquidation workforce, almost 12,000 jobs have been saved, while about 13% of the total jobs in Carillion (2,352) have been made redundant through the liquidation.

Recently announced jobs losses of 12 will be provided with comprehensive support by Jobcentre Plus’ Rapid Response Service, whose assistance goes well beyond Job Centre Plus facilities and can include access to other partners and organisations like the devolved administrations, Local Authorities and Regional Development Agencies  to provide a package of support for those affected by redundancies of this kind.

Carillion collapsed in January and appointed liquidators to the business, which directly employed around 19,000 people.  While some Carillion projects have been able to continue with relatively short-term disruption, such as the Paradise development in Birmingham city centre, some major projects including the construction of the Midland Metropolitan Hospital have been hit by huge delays and increased costs.
