New equine hospital opens in Lichfield

Pool House Veterinary Group has opened an equine hospital in Lichfield, supported by £2m funding.

The hospital, which will offer a 24/7 emergency service, is on the same Fradley site which housed its former equine clinic.

Richard Stephenson, senior partner at Pool House said: “After undergoing exponential growth since opening our Crown Inn Farm site in 2004, our new, purpose built equine hospital will allow us to continue to meet demand for quality equine veterinary care and establish ourselves as a regional centre of excellence.”

Pool House was founded in 1850 and now employs 100 staff generating annual revenues of more than £6m.

The equine hospital was funded by a £1.9m package from NatWest, with an additional £60,000 provided by Lombard Asset Finance.

The hospital has four operating theatres, intensive care stabling, a climate controlled pharmacy and an on site laboratory.

New services including nuclear medicine and CT scans will be offered in the future in addition to existing MRI, laparoscopic surgery and advanced dental care. There are also facilities for training and accommodating students on the site.

Mark Stuart, senior relationship manager at NatWest, added: “We first helped Pool House Veterinary Group fund the development of its small animal hospital in 2009 and we are proud to have assisted the Group’s latest expansion. We look forward to continuing to work together as the company grows.”
