Walsall Council is to invest £3.5m in upgrading and centralising its core business systems, following a decision by the council’s cabinet to include this spend in their capital budget for 2018.

This investment will transform the way corporate services are delivered, and will enable council officers to keep pace with the changing needs of residents, communities and local businesses.

The new system is cloud based, and it will enable critical work processes to be streamlined and made much more cost effective, and efficiently delivered.

Council leader, Mike Bird, said: “By making use of available new technologies and simplifying day to day work we can increase business efficiency which will improve customer service and drive down costs.

“This major systems upgrade is part of a wider understanding that we need to transform the way we work if we are to deliver the best possible, best outcomes for the people of Walsall and continue to meet the changing expectations of our communities.”

The council’s vision is to use technology to reduce inequalities in the borough and maximise potential through the provision of quality, cost-effective and sustainable services that are responsive to current local needs and readily adaptable in a changing world.

Bird concluded: “Walsall council is proud of the work we do to delivers services to the people of Walsall every day. By digitally enabling our work processes we are ensuring council services continue to meet the needs of the borough well into the future.”

Following a procurement process, Oracle’s Cloud ERP and Cloud HCM systems have to chosen to host the new system. The new system will be rolled out on a phased basis, with the help of system implementers Evosys, starting in 2019.
