Entrepreneurs recognised for inspiration and transformation

The Mildlands winners of EY's Entrepreneur of the Year 2018 awards

The chief executive of online payment firm ParentPay has been named the overall winner of EY’s Midlands Entrepreneur Of The Year awards.

Clint Wilson, who heads the Coventry-based business, had earlier won the Scale Up award. ParentPay is one of the fastest growing tech companies in the UK, providing a secure web application that allows parents to make online payments for all their child’s school items.

Neil Meredith, EY partner and Entrepreneur Of The Year Leader in the Midlands, said: “Parent Pay has grown into a dynamic, innovative and inspiring business under Clint’s leadership.

“Having joined the business in 2005, he’s shown himself to be a true entrepreneur by growing ParentPay to be the UK’s leading online payment service for schools.”

Arlington Industries’ Mark Franckel won the transformational leader award with judges highlighting his “inspirational story” that has seen the international manufacturing group thrive in a difficult market as it follows “a clear strategy for growth”.

In total eight awards were handed out, including “building a better working world” to husband and wife team Carol and Kevin Shanahan of Synectics Solutions, while Drayton Manor Theme Park won the family business award.

The other winners were Graham Best of ReBOUND Returns, PM Connect’s James Macfarlane, and Dr Richard Newland of CHS Healthcare.

Each will go on to the national final and compete against the other regional winners and, if successful, will then represent the UK in the global competition.
