Warehouse up for sale as retailer pulls out of UK

Fruit of the Loom's site in Halesfield Industrial Estate, Telford

The decision by clothes manufacturer Fruit of the Loom to move its operations abroad has resulted in its Telford warehouse being put up for sale for nearly £5m.

Last month the company said up to 70 jobs would be lost when it closed its Halesfield Industrial Estate site as part of plans to relocate to Europe and north Africa.

Jon Griffiths, chief financial officer for Fruit of the Loom Europe, said: “Halesfield 10G has served our company very well for our warehousing and administration needs for nearly 30 years.”

Commercial property consultants Bulleys Bradbury is marketing the 94,000 sq ft property on on behalf of the manufacturer.

Richard Bradbury, director of Telford-based Bulleys Bradbury, said: “It’s going to be of interest to owner occupiers and investors alike due to the current lack of buildings available, both freehold and leasehold.

“This scarcity factor, plus the fact that the building is in excellent condition and comes with well-fitted offices, means we are already receiving approaches from potential buyers.”
