Food giant 2 Sisters has reversed a decision to shut its Wolverhampton factory and it now plans to “develop a new customer base” for the site.

Around 150 jobs have been saved, which was put under threat after 2 Sisters reviewed its poultry manufacturing operations earlier this year.

Wolverhampton was one of three sites, alongside Smethwick and Cambuslang in Scotland, that were earmarked for closure. The other two sites have now closed.

A spokesperson for 2 Sisters said: “We are pleased that after meaningful consultation we are now able to utilise Site E to develop a new customer base over the next few months and we will begin transition to a seven-day working operation.

“As a result the site will remain open and all jobs saved.”

It has been a challenging period for 2 Sisters, which last year was hit by a food hygiene scandal that resulted in several investigations and a Parliamentary select committee inquiry.

Since then, 2 Sisters has appointed the former chief executive of Muller, Ronald Kers, to run the business. Ranjit Singh moved into the role of president of 2 Sisters’ parent company Boparan Holdings in June.
