A pilot scheme brings eco homes to Leamington
Warwick District Council have entered a pilot scheme with AC Lloyd Homes, a local housing development company, to build eight eco homes in Leamington.
AC Lloyd was approached by Warwick District Council to build the eco homes in order to showcase and promote the use of sustainable energy. Initially the council wanted one home built, but the developer suggested than a bigger scheme was merited, and so the plan grew from one eco house to eight.
Alistair Clark, the MD of AC Lloyd Homes, said:”Building sustainable and energy efficient homes is very important with spiralling fuel costs and climate change. After starting talks with Warwick District Council nine months ago, we have decided to build eight eco homes at Oakley Grove because I felt, if it was popular, we needed to give potential purchasers something to buy which embraced renewable energy technology.”
“Once they are completed, it is going to be interesting to see if people are willing to pay a little bit more money to buy a home that will save them money over time as well as improve the environment. This is a really exciting project and I look forward to receiving the reaction of our customers.”
Each eco home will have air source heat pumps with underfloor heating to the ground floor, together with other features to best insulate the property and save energy. These other features will include the use of thermal insulated plasterboard in the construction phase, better loft insulation, smart technology, solar panels and water butts.
Warwick District Council’s portfolio holder for Development, Cllr Alan Rhead said:”We very much hope that this initiative will not only attract new customers, but will also raise the bar for future housing across the district as customers appreciate and welcome the benefits.”
