Engineering consultancy appoints office lead for Birmingham

Matt Woodhall has been appointed at engineering consultancy Curtins in Birmingham, following more than a decade with the firm.

Woodhall, who is an associate at Curtins, will now lead a 40-strong team, taking responsibility for delivering a range of high-profile projects across the West Midlands as well as strategic growth throughout the region.

He said: “I grew up in Birmingham and am passionate about the city, so it has been fascinating to see how the city centre has evolved over the years. I am very proud to say that Curtins has played a significant part in shaping its history: working on so many of the region’s landmark buildings and continuing to be part of the ongoing transformation of Birmingham.

“I joined Curtins ten years ago, and I am delighted to now be able to help drive the team in Birmingham forward, overseeing exceptional delivery for our clients as well as supporting the firm’s plans for growth across the region.

“As a firm, we pride ourselves on working in collaboration with our clients and partners to deliver innovative and creative solutions to gain the very best results – and we have a hugely talented team with a real breadth of experience and specialist expertise in place to allow us to do just that.”

The consultancy is currently working on a number of key schemes in the city including 18 years working on projects at the Mailbox and the regeneration of Birmingham’s’ Southside, an area which was once home to the old Kent Street Baths where Curtins will also be working to deliver 400 purpose-built apartments alongside Lupa Land and Glenn Howells Architects.

In addition to these integral projects, Curtins – which has been in Birmingham since 1990 – recently designed a Collaborative Teaching Laboratory (CTL) for the University of Birmingham. The facility was recently completed and handed over to the university and brings together practical teaching activities across a broad range of science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) subjects.

Woodhall is also leading the design of a £33m swimming pool complex in Derby – which is one of Curtins’ flagship leisure schemes and an important project for the wider Midlands region.
Curtins director Dave Strong is responsible for the firm in the Midlands.

He said: “Our team in Birmingham has been at the forefront of the regeneration taking place in the city and Matt has played an important part in that over the last ten years, so I am delighted that he will now lead the team forwards.

“We take real pride in delivering an exceptional service through a combination of a technical capability, which is second to none, and our commitment to working in collaboration and creating long-standing partnerships with both our clients and other like-minded professionals. With Matt at the helm, we will be able to drive forwards our Birmingham office and continue to innovate and grow our offering in the city and further afield.

“I would like to congratulate Matt and I wish him every success in his new role.”
