Public consultation launched for housing scheme

A public exhibition is to be held next week to showcase plans for a housing scheme on a ten acre site in Burton-upon-Trent.

A mix of 131 homes and apartments are planned on a site off Aviation Lane.

Derby-based Partner Construction will build the homes on behalf of Midland Heart with multi-disciplinary design practice, rg+p acting as architect and planning consultant.

Andy Ward, senior planning consultant at rg+p, said: “On behalf of Partner Construction, we’ve prepared a full planning application for 131 all-affordable homes in a mix of one bed apartments and two, three and four bed homes. Homes will have a traditional brick appearance with feature details such as porchways, corner gabling and stone sills, and have been designed to respect the both the existing housing off Aviation Lane and Henhurst Hill, and the new housing being developed by Bellway Homes to the east.

“The public exhibition will be an informal event where members of the local community can view plans and information relating to highways, drainage and ecology, and pose questions to the project team about the proposals.”

Joe Reeves, executive director of growth and corporate affairs, Midland Heart, said: “The Aviation Lane development is a significant one for Midland Heart – and more importantly – for local people looking for high quality affordable housing. Together with our partner developer, Partner Construction we are seeking to provide 94 homes for affordable rent plus 37 for shared ownership on a landscaped site within walking distance of established schools and other amenities.”

If planning permission is secured, it is anticipated work on the new homes could begin in February 2019, with the first homes being made available from early 2020 and the whole development completed early in 2022.

The exhibition will be held 3pm-7pm on Thursday September 6 at the Henhurst and District Recreational Club.
