Garden building manufacturer to expand reach with funding boost

Stafford-based Crossley Garden Buildings, a family owned manufacturer of garden buildings, plans to expand its reach into new garden centres across the North West and Midlands after securing a £375,000 boost.

Established in 1981 by David Crossley, the business originally made garden sheds before gradually expanding the type of buildings they manufacture to include summerhouses, playhouses, stores and dog runs.

In 2004, the firm began to manufacture buildings using tantalised timber to extend the life of its buildings, which has helped grow the business and develop a strong customer base.

David Crossley, current owner, joined the business straight from leaving school and succeeded his father in 2016.

The funding from Santander will help support the seasonality of the business, allowing Crossley Garden Buildings to manufacture more during the quieter months and hold the stock for the summer months when they are at full capacity.

Crossley said: “The funding provided by Santander will enable us to fulfil more orders than previously possible and help to manage seasonal demand flows. We have seen increased demand for our garden buildings in recent years and are excited to be targeting new markets around the UK.”

Nathan Moult, relationship director, Santander Business Banking said: “We are delighted to support Crossley Garden Buildings, a local family business, as it targets expansion in the UK. We are confident that the business will be successful and we will support the business as it continues to grow.”
