A Birmingham city centre pub has been named Town Pub of the Year by the 2019 Good Pub Guide.

The independent annual travel guide which lists the UK’s best pubs has handed the title to The Old Joint Stock, which overlooks Birmingham Cathedral.

The guide said: “With its lively atmosphere, flamboyant interior, all-day popular food and even its own theatre, the Old Joint Stock in Birmingham is our Town Pub of the Year 2019.”

The Bell at Welford-on-Avon, Stratford-upon-Avon, was a runner up in the Pub of the Year title, which was won by the Cock at Hemingford Grey in Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire.

The Bell’s Colin and Teresa Ombler were awarded the Licensees of the Year 2019 award.

The George at Shipston-on-Stour, Warwickshire, was a runner up in the New Pub of the Year category, while the Old Castle in Bridgenorth, Shropshire took home the guide’s Value Pub of the Year title for its “wide choice of very fair value food”.

The Crown & Trumpet in Broadway, Worcestershire, was listed in the Top Ten Value Pubs list.
