People: Wealth Design Group welcomes new director; Willmott Dixon Interiors makes key appointment; and more

Scott Flemings has been appointed as director at Cannock-based Wealth Design Group, joining co-directors Steve Bennett and David Phillips.

Flemings, a chartered financial planner and Fellow of the Personal Finance Society, joined the organisation in 2016.

Flemings headed up the firm’s Streetly office following the acquisition of Hunter & Co.

He will be bringing with him more than two decades experience in financial services, teaming up once again with former Royal Bank of Scotland / Natwest colleague Steve Bennett.

Bennett said: “We are delighted to welcome Scott as a director, he shares our client-focused approach and our underpinning values to take the Wealth Design forwards.”

Willmott Dixon Interiors has made a key appointment as it looks to grow its business following the expansion of its services in the West Midlands.

Phil Taylor has joined the team at Two Snowhill as principal sales and marketing manager and will be leading the company’s push to generate new business in the region.

Taylor has worked in the interiors industry for over 20 years, having gained experience with John Davies Interiors and Thomas Vale Group prior to joining Willmott Dixon Interiors.

He has also headed his own specialist consultancy business for companies within the construction industry looking to enter new markets.

The appointment follows Willmott Dixon Interiors’ recent move to offices at Two Snowhill in Birmingham City Centre and is part of an ongoing strategy for expansion of its services and the creation of further jobs in the business over the coming months.

Taylor said: “Interiors has always been a part of my career and it is something I’m passionate about, so to join a company with Willmott Dixon’s reputation at an exciting time when we are expanding our business in the region is a great opportunity.

“We’re lucky to be able to offer customers a full service which will not only provide expertise in interior fit-outs and refurbishments but will also tap into our construction team for structural advice. This means we can deliver everything to customers so they don’t have to employ different contractors for separate parts of their refurbishment works.

“Birmingham is really thriving at the moment, there is a huge buzz about the city and this is also filtering out to the wider West Midlands region. I’m really looking forward to working in all sorts of different sectors including higher education, leisure and commercial and offering a fresh take on interior works in the region.”

Richard Gibbs of No5 Barristers’ Chambers in Birmingham has been asked to join the EU Law Committee of the Bar Council of England.

He has served as an elected member of the Bar Council since 2014, being re-elected in 2017 and joins the EU law committee at a time when much work is being devoted to the considerations stemming directly from Brexit and the future relationship between the UK and the EU.

The Bar Council’s EU Law committee monitors and addresses legal issues emanating from the EU including policy and legislative proposals from the various EU institutions, and then co-ordinates responses to policy issues which arise.

This includes liaison with various Specialist Bar Associations, Circuits and Bar Council Committees on such issues and to make representations to the appropriate bodies.

Gibbs said: “I am delighted to have been appointed to the EU Law Committee at this crucial time in the development of the legal framework which will surround Brexit but which will also shape our future interplay with the EU.

“In my own practice area of crime, the committee is addressing issues such as improving cross border access to electronic evidence, the European Parliament’s recent support for sanctions in money laundering matters and the mutual recognition of freezing and confiscation of assets orders. But its work is much wider than that, dealing with civil justice cooperation, consumer law, internal market issues and the digital single market. Of course, Brexit is front and centre as the biggest legal, constitutional and political issue of our age but these other issues are all still being addressed by the committee and I am very much looking forward to playing a part in this important work on behalf of the Bar Council.”
