A Birmingham online retailer who launched his business four years ago from his front room has secured funding to build the company’s first warehouse.

G J Boon, which was set up in July 2014 by director Tony Arora, specialises in giftware and personalised goods.

Today the business offers more than 3,000 products through its own website and third party sites, employs nine members of staff and turns over in excess of £2m.

The company exports to Europe including France, Germany, Italy and Spain and has plans to expand into the USA, India and Japan in the coming years.

Arora said: “When I started out packaging products on my dining room table, I never dreamt that the business would grow to this level, The funding will enable us to purchase a warehouse to hold our ever growing stock.”

Advised by Thapers Chartered Accountants, Andeep Mangal directed Tony to Barclays.

He said:“I knew from my existing relationship with the bank that they were looking to support trading businesses on commercial property acquisitions, and I was pleased that they were able to assist this fast growing business.”

Rebekah Tait, business manager at Barclays, added:“Tony identified a gap in the market and set about setting up his own business. He has done extremely well over the last four years which has created employment opportunities locally. The purchase of a warehouse will enable him to expand his product lines further. Funding came from the Barclays Midlands Growth Fund – a £370 million fund launched earlier this year to support regional growth and job creation.”
