Work on Port Loop park gets underway

Work has started on a public park which forms part of Birmingham’s Port Loop transformation.

The park, which will be almost one acre in size, will give residents of the new Port Loop development and surrounding areas a new public space and will also serve as a green corridor connecting visitors arriving by canal boat, and those walking through to Rotton Park Street.

Speaking on behalf of the partnership delivering Port Loop, Urban Splash and Places for People, Canal & River Trust and Birmingham City Council, project director Adam Willetts said: “We are thrilled to be on site with the park; it is the first significant element of public realm at Port Loop and one of many green spaces planned here – as well as a significant milestone in establishing this exciting new place.

“It gives Birmingham its first public park in quite some time and is going to be a much-loved asset for people moving into the community – as well as those already living here.”

The park, designed by Grant Associates, is set to complete in late Spring 2019.

The start on site at the park comes just a few weeks after the joint venture partners’ launch of the first Port Loop homes – a phase of modular town houses which are on sale now.

Eighty per cent of the first release of this phase have already been sold and are being constructed in the Urban Splash modular factory.
