A Birmingham independent school, which was the former home of Formula 1 driver Nigel Mansell, has new owners.

Rosslyn School on the Stratford Road in the Hall Green area of the city has been purchased by local businessman Shahid Khan of Kaan.

The school, which was established in 1927, is an independent school offering education for both girls and boys aged 3-11 year olds.

Khan is the founder of Apple Kids Day Nurseries, which has two nursery schools also in Birmingham.

Khan said: “It has always been my ambition to move into the independent school sector so I was delighted when Rossyln School came up for sale. The school has enjoyed a good reputation for providing high standards of education and I will look to build on this success in the future.”

Funding for the purchase was provided by Barclays.

Rebekah Tait, business manager at Barclays in Birmingham, said: “Shahid has a wealth of experience in the early year’s sector and I was delighted we have been able to support him with the purchase of Rosslyn School and to realise his growth ambitions.”

The school caters for 85 pupils and employs 21 staff.

Mr Khan was introduced to Barclays by Christie finance director Stuart Pawelczyk.

He said:“It has been a pleasure working with Shahid from Apple Kids and Rebekah from Barclays. Shahid is an experienced nursery owner with plenty of experience operating and converting his acquisitions into profitable businesses which provide care and education of the highest standard. I look forward to working with Shahid in the future as he continues to grow the established Apple Kids portfolio.”
