JLR’s troubles put 100 jobs at risk at Coleshill firm

Almost 100 jobs are at risk at a Coleshill company which delivers parts for Jaguar Land Rover from Europe to China as the car making giant continues to battle falling sales.

JLR may stop ordering some parts for some of its Chinese models for most of next year as it continues to adjust production schedules due to a downturn in sales, directly affecting logistics firm Syncreon.

In a letter to staff, given to ITV News, the company said: “Demand for export parts from Europe is significantly reduces for a period estimated to be at least later quarter three 2019.”
As a result, 96 people at Syncreon may lose their jobs.

JLR has been dealing with a series of challenges this year.

A slowdown in sales, in Europe as well as China, combined with a longer-term move away from diesel by car buyers and customer uncertainty over Brexit is affecting the manufacturer.

Earlier this week it was revealed that its sales in China more than halved last month and JLR said it “continues to work closely with retailers in China to respond to the present market conditions”.

Last month it announced another 200 jobs are to be lost at its Solihull factory – on top of the 1,000 job cuts announced earlier this year.

JLR announced in the summer that production of its Land Rover Discovery SUV would move from its Solihull plant. It also said there would be a temporary pause in production at its Wolverhampton engine manufacturing centre.
