People: Director hire for RSM, Host of appointments at Galliford Try; and more

Audit, tax and consulting firm RSM has kicked off 2019 with the appointment of Mike Gahir as a director in its Birmingham office.

Gahir will be tasked with building RSM’s debt advisory practice across the Midlands. He will also have a specific responsibility for business development through building relationships with corporates and intermediaries across the region.

He joins RSM from Santander UK Corporate Banking where he was head of international and working capital, Midlands and Anglia. In his career to date, he has held a number of senior banking roles at Natwest, RBS and Clydesdale and he brings with him significant experience of general lending, corporate finance, trade finance and asset based lending.

Gahir has also worked within industry as a finance director for United Steels.

The offices of Galliford Try Partnerships East and West Midlands are gearing up to the challenge of delivering more new housing starts over the coming months.

The regeneration specialist has grown rapidly in size, which has been the catalyst for a recruitment drive which has seen several new appointments and internal promotions.

West Midlands has seen Jema Moorcroft promoted to associate commercial director, Adam Sharpe promoted to head of pre-construction, Jonathan Walsh now associate construction director and the recruitment of Roy Dickenson, managing quantity surveyor.

In the East Midlands new recruits include Keith Moorcroft, construction director and Emma Hunt, head of legal.

Galliford Try Partnerships’ key projects across the regions include Tapworks and Tower & Fort Works in Wolverhampton where they are regenerating two sites to deliver 227 new homes for rent and for sale; the former Hall Green Stadium site in Birmingham which will see the delivery of 210 new two, three, and four bed houses; and a £33m contract with Central Bedfordshire Council to build an independent living development in Houghton Regis.

The Eden Hotel Collection has announced that Nick Hanson has been appointed general manager at Mallory Court Country House Hotel and Spa in Warwickshire.

Hanson will join the hotel from The Idle Rocks and St Mawes Hotel in Cornwall, where he has held the position of general manager for both properties since August 2016. He has previously held GM roles at The Bath Priory, The Vineyard Hotel in Stockcross, and Sharrow Bay in the Lake District.

Hanson will take over the GM position of the hotel from the Eden Hotel Collection’s director Greg Fehler, who has been acting general manager at Mallory Court since Sarah Baker stepped down last year.
Set in 10 acres of gardens close to Leamington Spa, 43-bedroom Mallory Court Country House Hotel and Spa has been a member of Relais & Châteaux since 1983.
