People: Harworth Group makes key regional appointments; Senior hires for St.Modwen; and more

David Cockroft

Harworth Group, the regenerator of land and property for development and investment, has hired David Cockroft as regional director for the Midlands.

Cockroft was previously the director of city centre and major projects development at Coventry City Council and has over 25 years’ experience in regeneration and brownfield development, having previously worked for St Modwen, Lovell Homes and English Partnerships.

He will spearhead Harworth’s growth into the West Midlands, building on Harworth’s acquisition of the former Ironbridge power station in Shropshire in June 2018 as it looks to acquire further strategic sites as well as developing existing sites such as Harworth’s Coalville development – the delivery of over 2,000 new housing plots over the next 15 years.

Owen Michaelson, chief executive, said: “The strategic evolution of the business and our expected activities going forward means that the move towards a regional structure is essential for the business and I am absolutely delighted with each of these new appointments.”

Palmer, who has 13 years’ planning experience, joins St. Modwen from Jaguar Land Rover, where she was the senior town planner and was responsible for all planning matters across their UK estate.

Palmer will be responsible for planning promotion and will oversee the delivery of a portfolio of residential and commercial projects across the Midlands.

She will be based at St. Modwen’s headquarters in Longbridge, Birmingham.

Following the recent appointment of a new chair and trio of board members, Sandwell Business Ambassadors has continued its expansion by welcoming three more representatives to champion business interests in the area.

Corin Crane, chief executive at Black Country Chamber of Commerce, Kate Bradshaw-Sole, store manager at Sainsbury’s in Oldbury, and Mark Miles, operations director at West Bromwich Albion Football Club, have all joined as ambassadors.

Miles said: “Sandwell is a significant economic contributor to the Midlands, and I’m looking forward to being an advocate of the borough and its ambitions to support local SMEs.”

The objectives of Sandwell Business Ambassadors include communicating directly with the council on behalf of local businesses, representing Sandwell in the wider community and improving the lives of Sandwell residents through engagement with schools, promoting opportunities and instigating initiatives to bridge the skills gap in the region.
