People: HORIBA MIRA appoints chief technical officer; Four appointments complete Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games board; and more

HORIBA MIRA, a global provider of engineering, research and test services to the automotive, defence, aerospace and rail sectors has appointed Graeme Stewart as chief technical officer.

Stewart joins HORIBA MIRA as part of the executive team and takes overall responsibility for the technical strategy, implementation and delivery.

He most recently held the position of programme management director at Ricardo Automotive Division, a board member role responsible for programme management and delivery of all projects against time, quality, customer satisfaction, budget and cash performance targets.

Prior to this, he was managing director of the Ricardo Vehicle Systems Business Unit where he had full commercial performance, sales and project delivery responsibility. He also spent 10 years at Visteon, culminating in his role as business and product development manager.

Stewart said: “It’s a very exciting time to be joining HORIBA MIRA. Not only does it operate with its people, culture and values at its heart but its long-term vision through investment in engineering, R&D and facilities has been clearly demonstrated, and enabled further, by being part of the HORIBA family.”

He joins Nuneaton-based HORIBA MIRA as the final member of the new executive team, assembled by Declan Allen after his appointment to managing director in April 2018. Stewart joins Allen alongside Tim Nathan, chief operating officer, Miller Crockart, chief commercial officer and Geoff Davies, chief strategy officer.

Four new members have been appointed to the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games Organising Committee board.

Non-executive directors include five-time Paralympic and fourteen-time world champion Ellie Simmonds, Lyndsey Jackson, deputy chief executive of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe Society, and Nick Timothy, columnist for the Daily Telegraph and the Sun and Theresa May’s former joint chief of staff in Downing Street and her special adviser in the Home Office, have all been appointed to the board by Jeremy Wright, Secretary of State for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport.

Derrick Anderson, the former chief executive of City of Wolverhampton Council, has been confirmed as the West Midlands Combined Authority’s nominee.

With these four members joining the existing ten, who were all appointed in 2018, the board for the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games is now complete.

Europa Air & Sea, a division of Birmingham-based logistics provider Europa Worldwide Group, is continuing its ambitious growth plans by investing in a new role.

Matthew Greenway has recently joined the team, bringing with him a wealth of experience, having spent over 13 years working within the logistics and supply chain industry. His previous roles include sea freight manager, covering import and export sales, international business and ocean transportation operations.

Within the new role as pricing and procurement manager, Greenway is responsible for enabling further growth.

Last year, Europa Air & Sea celebrated reaching a turnover of £35mand its best-ever quarterly results, achieving record growth during the second quarter of 2018.
