Technology firm scores with European deal for football app

Mobile payments specialist PM Connect has teamed up with Belgium’s largest mobile carrier to put its football video and statistics app in front of 6m customers.

The Birmingham-based business has agreed a “sizeable rolling contract” with Belgium’s largest mobile carrier Proximus that will see the company’s Opta-powered football app rolled out in Belgium for the first time.

PM Connect’s LiveFootball.tv app provides video and statistics from the Premier League, Champions League, Europa League, France’s Ligue 1 and Belgium’s own First Division Jupiler League.

Proximus has a 40% share of the Belgian mobile market and the deal is the latest in a series of international expansions for the fast-growing Midlands technology business.

In November it announced a major contract with Africa’s biggest mobile carrier, Vodacom.

Chris Purdie, group commercial director at PM Connect

Chris Purdie, group commercial director at PM Connect, said: “In addition to wins in emerging global economies, strengthening our presence in the European market is crucial for PM Connect’s growth strategy.

“In competitive Western markets, it’s even more important we stand out. Our expertise in sports apps and subscription sites – driving growth for both brands and carriers – is a real point of difference.”

PM Connect was last week shortlisted twice in TheBusinessDesk.com’s Business Masters, in the innovation and international trade categories.

Its mobile payment solutions allow consumers to pay for lifestyle and sports content, videos and articles through carrier billing – adding payments directly to their phone bill.

PM Connect’s mobile subscription sites are already rolled-out across Europe, the Middle East, Asia Pacific and Africa – with the recent Vodacom deal the first step in a wide-scale African expansion.
