Specialist communications business sees signs of growth

A Redditch communication support business is to expand its service for deaf and hard of hearing people after receiving an equity investment from the Midlands Engine Investment Fund.

Sign Solutions plans to take on seven staff over the next two years as part of its growth strategy.

The business has had a video interpreting service since 2004, which has improved the accessibility and financial viability of interpretation for deaf people.

It now wants to expand its services and grow its market share within the “rapidly-growing” video interpreting market.

“Every organisation should be equally accessible to all their clients, customers, employees and patients,” said Clare Vale, managing director of Sign Solutions.

“I want the roles we create to support our growing client base, and through greater promotion of our on-demand video interpreting service, we can help more public and private sector organisations to become aware of their responsibilities regarding equality and accessibility.”

The funding was provided by Midven, which is managing the £35m equity portion of the taxpayer-funded MEIF.

Midven declined to say how much money was invested in Sign Solutions, nor how much it has invested to date from the MEIF funds. A spokesperson would only say that its “investments are in line with expectations”.
