People: EY adds to tax team; Director hire for RPS; Senior appointment at analytics software company

EY has further bolstered its tax team in the Midlands with the appointment of Chris Marjoram as associate partner.

Marjoram joins EY’s transaction tax team and will be focused on developing the firm’s mid-market offering across the Midlands, advising private equity funds, privately owned businesses and listed companies on the tax implications of their transactions.

Marjoram has returned to the Midlands after living in Asia, where he was a partner in another Big Four firm advising multinationals on their investments in China, Vietnam and the South East Asia region.

He joins EY’s 900+ strong regional practice covering both the East and West Midlands. He also joins the firm’s growing leadership team, with four equity partners, two associate partners and five directors appointed in the Midlands over the last 12 months.

Marjoram said: “I am delighted to be back in the Midlands at this exciting time when the region is poised to take advantage of the many opportunities presented by major projects such as HS2 and the Commonwealth Games. EY’s focus on exceptional client service and its market leading Transaction Tax team made it the natural fit for me and I am looking forward to being part of the team and supporting its fast-paced expansion.”

Linda Marston-Weston, head of tax at EY in the Midlands, added: “This is an exciting period of growth for our local tax practice and Chris’ appointment will enable us to further strengthen our offering to clients in the regional mid-market. We continue to recruit at all levels and across all specialisms to support the ongoing expansion of our thriving Midlands tax team.”

RPS has made a senior promotion in its Birmingham-based planning team with the promotion of Cameron Austin-Fell to director.

Austin-Fell joined RPS as a senior planner in 2014 from Eden District Council in Cumbria, where he was part of the planning team which supported the Upper Eden Community Group in adopting the first neighbourhood plan in the UK.

During his time at RPS he has worked with several housebuilders and land promoters including Rippon Homes, Richborough Estates, Taylor Wimpey and Thakeham Homes on residential planning applications, strategic promotion and planning appeals.

He has also been responsible for coordinating the RPS Futures model, which has been used at numerous examinations and appeals to guide discussion on housing need at local authority level.

His new role will see him expanding these functions, as well as helping to develop the business and grow both locally and across the UK.

He said: “I’m looking forward to taking the next steps in my career with RPS, building on the success of the Birmingham office and to help clients explore new opportunities for growth.

“There’s been significant changes within planning policy over the last 12 months, and whilst we now have greater clarity in some areas, the position continues to evolve.

“I’m looking forward to developing our team here in Birmingham, ensuring that we have the right people in place to engage with our clients and assist in guiding them through these planning issues to deliver the very best results.”
