Wolverhampton’s landmark Sunbeam factory brought to market

An iconic building in Wolverhampton, known in its heyday as ‘Sunbeamland’, has been brought to market after years of uncertainty.

The 150,000 sq ft former motorcycle factory has full planning consent for 116 residential units and is set over a total site area of 2.1 acres. The joint administrators are inviting all enquiries including interest to fund, develop or purchase the property outright.

Planning consent was obtained in 2013 by QED Developments before it fell into administration.

The disused Sunbeam factory and its surrounding land occupies an island position between Paul Street, Pool Street and Jeddo Street in Wolverhampton; with easy access to road, rail and public transport links.

Administrators Quantuma have appointed Colliers International, alongside Peter Fenwick & Co., to provide strategy, valuation and disposal of the site.

Simon Campbell and Carl Jackson of Quantuma, said: “With a leading university on the development’s doorstep, and inward investment pouring into Wolverhampton, now is an exciting time for a rare asset such as this to be coming to market. Sunbeam offers extensive asset management and value-add opportunities for funds, JV partnerships and developers alike.”

Nick Hammond, director, advisory and restructuring, Colliers International, said: “Sunbeam’s legacy in Wolverhampton and the West Midlands offers potential buyers an exciting, unique opportunity to acquire a site of real historic significance.

“Moreover, the building’s excellent gateway presence means that, once fully developed and restored to its former glory, Sunbeam has the capacity to become a large urban residential regeneration scheme with huge potential for high return on investment.”
