A senior M&A lawyer, Spalding has over 25 years corporate and private equity experience, acting for corporate, private equity and owner managed clients in sectors including pharma, manufacturing, light industrials, and professional services.

Prior to three years at London firm RPC, hee was at Wragge Lawrence Graham & Co (now Gowlings) in Birmingham for 17 years, after six years at Eversheds.

At Lodders, he will work alongside Kim Klahn, the firm’s head of the corporate and commercial team in its Stratford upon Avon office.

He said: “This is a rare opportunity to drive growth of corporate, private equity and M&A work at a highly ambitious firm.

“We have our sights firmly set on becoming the go-to corporate lawyers in Warwickshire and the M40 corridor, and working with Kim and the wider Corporate and Commercial team across the firm’s network of offices, we will utilise the combined experience to deliver Lodders’ strategic expansion plans and realise the firm’s plans for growing the volume and size of deals in the corporate arena, working for OMBs, SMEs, family and privately owned businesses throughout the region.

“Lodders is an ambitious and growing firm built on more than 230-years of providing excellent legal services for, in many instances, generations of clients, and I am looking forward to working as part of the firm’s equity partnership to build upon Lodders’ success and excellent reputation throughout the next phase of its growth.”

Paul Mourton, Lodders managing partner, added: “Graham is a highly experienced senior corporate lawyer and a significant hire for the firm, addition to the equity partnership, and in particular our thriving Corporate and Commercial practice. Graham and Kim make a strong, winning team, and are both focussed on growth for the team, to firmly establish Lodders’ Corporate and Commercial practice as a real force in the region.”

Charlotte Hammersley, Ed Nutting, Alan Gittins and Tania McGee

Lanyon Bowdler has added to its commercial and agricultural property team in the Oswestry office.

Charlotte Hammersley joined the firm at the start of March, bringing over 30 years experience in both private practice and as a legal academic specialising in commercial and agricultural property.

She has worked for some of the largest law firms in the UK and brings significant additional strength and depth to the team in both commercial and agricultural property.
Hammersley will join the well-established team in Oswestry, working alongside long-serving partner Alan Gittins, who has been with the firm and its predecessor firms, since 1976, associate Tania McGee who joined in January 2018 and has 20 years experience across both commercial and agricultural property, and partner Edward Nutting who joined in April 2018 bringing 11 years experience in commercial and agricultural property.

The team will benefit in May from the addition of Llinos Roberts, a newly qualified solicitor specialising in commercial and agricultural property who will support the experienced team from the firm’s premises in both Oswestry and Conwy.

2019 also sees the departure of two long serving team members and partners in Ian Glenister who, following almost 30 years with Lanyon Bowdler and before that Longueville Gittins, is retiring from practice, and Emma Wilde who after 19 years is leaving the firm to pursue new opportunities.

Managing Partner Brian Evans said: “I would like to thank Ian and Emma for their hard work over the years and wish them well.

“We are delighted to have been able to build on the recruitment of Tania McGee and Edward Nutting last year with the addition of Charlotte Hammersley and Llinos Roberts in coming months to ensure our clients can continue to trust us to deliver the highest standard of legal services they have come to expect and indeed enable us to deal with the ongoing growth in demand for our commercial and agricultural property services.”

“Julia was incredibly popular with local businesses when she was here until 2016 and since then the BID has struggled to find anyone with the creative vision to help us realise our plans for Southside, we are confident with her back at the helm we can achieve the results we need.”
