People: Specialist in mergers and acquisitions joins law firm’s Black Country office; Board hire for Homeserve; and more

Thursfields Solicitors has recruited a top corporate lawyer whose experience includes mergers and acquisitions to help strengthen its expanding Black Country team.

Philip Chapman joins Thursfields as a director in its corporate department after spending ten years with Wall James Chappell where he was a partner and head of corporate, specialising in company re-structuring, cross border joint ventures, investment arrangements and shareholder agreements.

Chapman trained at a large regional firm in Birmingham. He has a degree from the Ecole Superieure de Commerce de La Rochelle in France and is a post-graduate from Cambridge University.

He said: “I’m delighted to have joined Thursfields which I feel is an ambitious firm with fresh ideas.

“I wanted to be a part of a company that is constantly striving to provide the best quality service for clients.”

Home repairs business HomeServe has appinted Olivier Grémillon as a non-executive director.

Grémillon is vice president, global segments, at Booking.com and previously spent six years in management positions at Airbnb.

Barry Gibson, chairman, HomeServe, said: “I am delighted to welcome Olivier to the HomeServe board.

“He brings extensive experience of growing digital platform businesses, which is directly relevant as HomeServe grows its Checkatrade and Habitissimo online platform businesses and digitises it membership businesses.”

Solihull Business Improvement District (BID) has welcomed a new vice chair.

Tony Elvin, general manager of Touchwood, said the BID has plans to make Solihull an “even better destination, to bring greater footfall, inclusion and energy to the area”.

The BID works alongside key partners such as Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council, West Midlands Police, public transport providers and property owners including Mell Square and Touchwood.

Elvin, who joined the BID board in the autumn of 2018, has been general manager at Touchwood since last spring.

He will work alongside BID chair Kevin Johns, of Prime Accountants, and BID director Melanie Palmer on various schemes and events intended to raise the profile of the town centre as a shopping, business and visitor destination.

“It is fantastic to have been elected to the vice chair role at Solihull BID, particularly at such a critical time for the town centre and looking ahead to the next BID term elections,” he said.

“We’ve got so much we want to do, so many plans we’re working on to make Solihull an even better destination working with and through our local stakeholders.”
