70-year-old manufacturer acquired by engineering firm

A Shropshire manufacturer, which has been in family ownership since it was founding in 1949, has been acquired by Tibbetts Group supplies engineered products and components for the automotive, aerospace, industrial, construction and security sectors.

Founded by Harold Powell, Shropshire-based Powell Gee is an independent manufacturer and distributor of fasteners into the UK construction sector, mainly serving roofing and cladding contractors.

Operating from a distribution hub in Atcham, Shropshire and a manufacturing facility in Wednesbury, the company supplies high specification technical products such as self-drilling screws, rivets, bolts and gutter brackets.

Mike Mackey, sales director of Powell Gee, said: “At Powell Gee we have grown a business based on high quality specialist products, stock availability and technical knowledge and advice.

The shareholders of Powell Gee were advised on the sale by Springboard Corporate Finance, with the transaction being led by partner Ben Bolt and manager Jonathan Wright.

Tibbetts Group was established in 2005 and is based in Banbury.
