World’s biggest Primark store opens in Birmingham
The world’s biggest Primark store is opening its doors in Birmingham today, featuring water fountains, charging and recycling points.
The building on the site of the former Pavilions shopping centre is set over five floors, and spanning 160,000 sq ft, is the biggest of the high street retailer’s 365 stores across Europe and the US.
It will include a Disney-themed cafe and shopping area, a beauty studio, and a Hogwarts Wizarding World section.
Shoppers will also be able to donate old clothes and shoes of any brand for recycling while personalised T-shirts can be printed at a ‘custom lab’.
Primark’s director of new business development, Tim Kelly, said: “Our customers can expect a great experience at Primark Birmingham High Street.
“They can spend time with friends and family, eat great food, recharge and have fun, and find everything under one roof including fashion, beauty and homeware – all at an amazing price.
“We’re proud to bring this great store and everything it has to offer to Birmingham.”
Meanwhile, National Express West Midlands has announced it is giving away free bus tickets for the opening of the store.
The bus company is offering new users of its app a free Group Daysaver to use on one day of the opening weekend – either Saturday 13 or Sunday 14 April.
National Express West Midlands’ commercial director, Nick Vane, said: “This massive Primark is such good news for Birmingham. We want everyone – Brummies and visitors – to be able to come and enjoy this great new destination.
“We predict it will be a really busy weekend. So at National Express West Midlands, we’re making it easier for people to avoid the traffic and the hassle of parking by offering a free Group Daysaver to new users of our app. Up to five people can travel together on this one ticket for one day of the first Primark weekend.
“New users just have to sign up on our website and the ticket will appear on their phones straight away.”
Cllr Waseem Zaffar, cabinet member for transport and environment at Birmingham City Council, said: “The opening of the world’s biggest Primark store in Birmingham is a significant event for the city, so we are expecting a particularly busy weekend.
“While I want people to come into the city and enjoy all it has to offer, I would urge anyone planning to travel into Birmingham on Saturday or Sunday to take advantage of this offer for a day of free bus travel, even if you have not used the bus for a while.
“More people using public transport means fewer cars on our roads, which in turn means less congestion and, crucially, cleaner air for everyone to breathe.”
