Popular Birmingham bar and music venue gets a further stay of execution

Birmingham city centre bar The Flapper will remain open until at least 2020 after a deal was struck with the pub’s landlord.

After news broke that the venue may be in jeopardy, a petition was signed by more than 11,000 people to prevent Birmingham City Council and Whitehorse Estates agreeing to the residential block plans.

The canalside pub announced its closing date last summer, preparing to cease trading in June 2018, after developer Will Adams put forward plans for a £10m residential block on the site.

In a statement on Facebook, the establishment said: ““Over the past few weeks we have been in talks with our landlord, Whitehorse Estates Ltd. These talks have resulted in THE FLAPPER LTD’ lease being extended until 7TH JANUARY 2020.

“We are absolutely delighted to see another Halloween, Christmas and NY at The Flapper.

“We don’t have any news/updates on the development/plans process at the moment, but we’re sure to keep everyone in the loop as and when.

“So until then, we’re now working hard at filling in those extra events and gigs.

“BIG LOVE UNTIL 2020, TF xxx”
