Metro Bank to open first store in Wolverhampton

Metro Bank is to open its first store in Wolverhampton city centre.

The high street banking chain has agreed a 25-year lease on 6 and 7 Dudley Street and 1 Queen Street with landlord Hortons’ Estate.

Metro Bank will replace the former Vodafone store, which is relocating to new premises within the city centre.

Metro Bank opened its first store in the UK in 2010 and was the first High Street bank to open in more than 100 years. Today it has 66 stores around the country.

Steven Tommy from Hortons’ said: “We’re pleased to have secured the letting to Metro Bank in Wolverhampton. Despite being a relative newcomer to the High Street banking sector, it has already established a strong reputation and loyal customer base and I’m sure its new store in the city centre will be very much welcomed.

“We have worked closely with Metro Bank to combine three units to create a space to meet theirs and their customers’ needs. The addition of a new High Street bank in Wolverhampton is very much a vote of confidence in the city.”

Ian Walters, managing director, retail and business banking, said: “As the revolution in British banking, we’re thrilled to be coming to Wolverhampton, which is also my hometown. We’re committed to bringing amazing customer service to local residents and businesses in the city.”

Wright Silverwood advised Hortons’ on the transaction.
