Morgan Sindall wins place on public-private framework

Rugby-based Morgan Sindall Construction has been appointed to two lots on public sector procurement specialist Scape Group’s ‘Venture’ frameworks, set up to deliver support public-private partnerships.

The contractor has been selected as the exclusive provider in the Midlands for projects over £7.5m. It will also deliver projects up to £7.5m on a non-exclusive basis in the region, and exclusively in London and the South.

Scape Venture aim to support public-private partnerships and charitable organisations, allowing privately-funded projects to be delivered rapidly, with a robust governance structure.

Local authority owned private companies, charitable bodies, joint venture partnerships and special purpose vehicles with projects that are privately-financed will all be eligible to use Scape Venture.

One of the main uses is expected to be the delivery of new schools as part of a Section 106 agreement.

Morgan Sindall Construction is currently delivering Hackwood Primary School in Derby, which it was appointed to through the previous iteration of Scape Venture. The £5m flagship project is the largest to be delivered through the framework. It is on course to handover later this summer, having been built in less than nine months thanks to the use of innovative off-site modular construction methods.

Derby City Council commissioned the 14,000 sq ft school in collaboration with residential developers Redrow Homes East Midlands and Miller Homes as part of a Section 106 agreement.

Rob Cant, Scape framework director at Morgan Sindall Construction, said: “We’re incredibly pleased to continue our tenure on Scape Venture. To be selected as the sole contractor for flagship projects over £7.5 million in the Midlands, and for schemes up £7.5 million in London and the South, speaks volumes to our successful track record working through the framework.

“Through its previous iteration, we’ve been able to work collaboratively from an early-stage with private and public sector partners to deliver projects vital for local communities.

“It provides progressive organisations delivering privately-funded projects with a procurement route that not only guarantees efficiency and quality, but an assurance that their investment can support meaningful initiatives focused on maximising social value alongside the build process.”

Mark Robinson, Scape Group chief executive, added: “We are tremendously proud of the volume of successful, and high-profile projects that Scape Venture has enabled in recent years by bringing together the very best of public and private procurement expertise.

“Our strengthened Scape Venture offering will continue to generate greater value for money and project success for privately funded projects, while creating significant and measurable social value across the United Kingdom. The delivery partners we have selected will all be supported by strong local supply chains which will ensure projects are delivered on-time and on-budget, while stimulating local economic growth by keeping the pound local.”
