Weekender: Brindleyplace Film Festival line-up announced

The line-up for this year’s Brindleyplace film festival has been revealed.

Now in its eighth year, the outdoor event will be kicking off with a showing of Mamma Mia on Monday 15th July and will run all week on an outdoor screen in Central Square.

Evening screenings during the week will start at 6pm, alongside two earlier showings at the weekend, starting at 1pm and 4pm.

The line-up was chosen by the public, with more than 2,000 people voting online for their favourite films. The estate will come alive with the Sound of Music on Tuesday 16th July, followed by romantic drama Moulin Rouge on Wednesday 17th and Bowie’s goblin king in Labyrinth on Thursday 18th.

Go gaga for A Star is Born on Friday 19th July, run away to the circus with The Greatest Showman on Saturday 20th at 1pm, or prepare to break free with Bohemian Rhapsody at a later 4pm screening. Closing the show on Sunday 21st is Disney favourite Moana at 1pm, followed by the practically perfect Mary Poppins Returns at 4pm.

Stacey Muir, marketing and events executive at Brindleyplace, said: “The Brindleyplace Film Festival has become one of our most popular events and never fails to draw the crowds year on year.

“We were so excited for this year’s music theme, and the public have definitely picked a stellar line-up of films. Topping the list this year was The Greatest Showman and Bohemian Rhapsody.
“In the lead-up to the Film Festival, we’ll also be showing the Wimbledon finals on the big screen on Saturday 13th and Sunday 14th July, so there’s plenty of reasons to head to Brindleyplace this summer.”

This year’s festival is being held in partnership with charity Sense, who will be fundraising throughout the week long event, hosting various activities across the estate. Sense supports children and adults who are deafblind or have complex disabilities.
