Plans submitted for 37 floor ‘super slender’ tower

A 37 floor tower could be the latest addition to Birmingham’s skyline as plans for a ‘super slender’ building have been put forward.

Birmingham-based developer Taylor Grange Developments has lodged proposals for a £58m block of 264 serviced apartments on land at 211 Broad Street, next door to Moda Living’s 42-storey residential tower The Mercian which is currently under construction.

Designed by Glancy Nicholls Architects, the tower would be a ‘super slender’ building accounting for its proximity to other buildings.

The application report said: “The proposals have been carefully designed taking full account of the existing and emerging built context in order to provide an appropriate response.”

The existing Transport General Workers Union Building will be demolished to make way for the tower.

Amenities at lower levels will include dining/café/ restaurant, a bar, resident’s lounge, gymnasium and storage spaces but there will be no parking provision on site.
